Cities are layered with history. But walk down almost any street and you're standing on top of stories most people never hear — not because the stories aren't there, but because the ways we tell them haven't kept up.
Audio guides read like encyclopedia entries. Group tours move at someone else's pace and someone else's interests. Most people walk through historically rich neighborhoods and leave knowing nothing more than when they arrived.
We thought there was a better way.
What we're building
EraHopper is an immersive walking experience platform. You show up to a neighborhood, put in your headphones, and a real historical figure — someone who actually lived and worked on the streets you're standing on — narrates the walk in their own voice, from their own time.
It's not a lecture. It's not a podcast. It's closer to stepping into a living piece of theater, except the stage is the city itself and the script is drawn from the historical record.
We care deeply about getting the history right. Every claim is sourced. We don't invent quotes, we don't dramatize beyond what the record supports, and we don't simplify history to make it more comfortable. The complexity is the point.
Who we are
A small group of people who love cities and want you to love them too. We work with historians, local writers, and researchers in each city we build in — people who know their neighborhoods deeply and want to share them.
Where we're headed
We're launching in San Francisco in September 2026. Boston will follow. After that, we're going wherever the history is good and someone local knows how to tell it.
